    Genesee Lake School, a MyPath company, is a nationally recognized employee-owned provider of educational, vocational, and therapeutic residential services for children, adolescents, and young adults dealing with a variety of challenges and behavioral issues.  We specialize in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and complex trauma.  The mission of Homegrown Farms is to enrich the lives of Genesee Lake School students through year round educational, vocational, and therapeutic opportunities focusing on a connection with the natural world, food production, and the dignity of meaningful work.  Homegrown Farms contains 52 acres of rich organic farmland planted with 2 acres of mixed vegetables such as potatoes, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, and beans, and 50 acres of row crops such as dry beans, sunflowers, buckwheat, and corn.  


     

    Responsibilities

    To succeed in this role, you must show an understanding of the emotional and developmental disabilities of the people we serve.  When you join our team, you will be enrolled in our training program designed to build the skills and confidence needed to meet your job requirements.

     

    As a Farm Operations Assistant, you will:

    • Be responsible for the general maintenance of the farm including repair of farm/field equipment, overseeing service functions of the cube truck and van, and assisting with her project constructions.
    • Perform animal chores caring for the goats and chickens, including feeding, watering, keeping area clean, and maintaining inventory of supplies.
    • Be responsible for farm-related maintenance including biannual animal barn clean-up, quarterly chicken coop clean up and the opening/closing of the pond.
    • Deliver produce to the Genesee Lake School kitchen, perform compost pick-up and compost bin clean-up.
    • Be responsible for the construction and removal of seasonal flower huts, report needed supplies, and oversees the storage of the huts and hut supplies. Perform all duties of retail staff as needed.
    • Assist in the production of planning, filling pots, moving plants, watering, and pruning. Take calls and messages related to Greenhouse sales.
    • Make deliveries for wholesale greenhouse orders and assist with deliveries to the seasonal huts.
    • Assist with the maintenance of field structures. Assist with preparation for yearly planting with mowing and tilling per the Field Manager.
    • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and production materials. Ensure that work site and grounds are kept clean and orderly.  Report safety, repairs, and physical plant needs to the Farm Operations Coordinator.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 21 years old
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some college with an emphasis in farming/maintenance preferred.
    • Experience on a small farm preferred.
    • Maintains a valid WI Driver’s License with minimal moving violations to qualify for Agency driving eligbility.

    Wage & Schedule Information

    • $12/hourly
    • This is classified as a casual-status position

    • Hours will fluctuate throughout the course of the year. 

      • From February to July, hours will be between 20-28 hours per week. 

      • From August through January, hours will decrease to approximately 24 hours per month. 

      • Every other weekend (4-8 hours/weekend) required. 

      • Flexibility offered for start and end times.
