    Genesee Lake School (which is 100% employee owned!) is a nationally recognized and respected provider of therapeutic educational, residential, and vocational services to children and adolescents with developmental disabilities.  Our beautiful campus in the countryside outside of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, is an ideal setting for our students to learn, grow, and achieve their maximum potential. 

     

    We are excited to announce that we are now seeking a Field Manager to join our team at Homegrown Farms!  The mission of Homegrown Farms is to enrich the lives of Genesee Lake School students through year round educational, vocational, and therapeutic opportunities focusing on a connection with the natural world, food production, and the dignity of meaningful work.  Homegrown Farms contains 52 acres of rich organic farmland planted with 2 acres of mixed vegetables such as potatoes, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, and beans, and 50 acres of row crops such as dry beans, sunflowers, buckwheat, and corn.  We are looking for a grower with skill, motivation, versatility, and heart.  The Field Manager will be in charge of growing produce for our school cafeteria and area group homes.  On average, Homegrown Farms provides the GLS kitchen with nearly 9000 pounds of fresh vegetables from May through December!  Primary job functions will focus on crop production, planning, and management.  Must be able to work independently.  During the off season, responsibility will focus more on general farm duties (animal care, etc).  

    Responsibilities

    • Create and implement field schedules: seasonal map, seeding, transplanting, watering, planting, and harvesting.
    • Organize, implement, and monitor pest management and field fertilization practices.
    • Oversees Field Assistant schedules and duties.
    • Create and communicate field duties for Vocational Staff and Students when applicable.
    • Harvesting from field, cleaning, counting, weighing, sorting, and filling orders.
    • Implements and maintains relevant planting schedule, harvesting, and delivery to coincide with the needs of the group homes and kitchen. (You will be the main grower responsible for producing vegetables used in the kitchen and group homes)
    • Assists with routine farm duties including weekend coverage and/or during off season.
    • Completes other farm and field related duties delegated by the Farm Director as needed or deemed necessary to achieve overall farm and field goals.


     

    Wage & Benefit Information

    • $14.00-$15.50/hour depending on experience.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 21
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • A minimum of 1 year of agriculture/horticulture/farming field experience
    • Knowledge of running a tractor preferred
    • A valid Wisconsin Driver License with a satisfactory driving record meeting company driving eligibility standards
    • Ability to meet physical demands of the position including ability to bend, twist, reach, lift, walk or stand for long periods of time, run, squat, and bilateral/manual dexterity.
    • Ability to operate large machinery safely
    • Ability to use good judgment, make quick decisions, and use good problem-solving skills
